Tim Slusser serves as the Chief of Mobility Innovation, leading the City of Detroit’s Office of Mobility Innovation (OMI). OMI exists to help the City of Detroit navigate the rapidly changing transportation and mobility industries. This includes working across city departments to coordinate cleaner, more accessible, and more equitable mobility solutions for residents and visitors. OMI collaborates with industry, academia, philanthropy, and local, state and federal government.

In this role, Tim works to direct the development of mobility-focused public-private partnerships, inform policies related to various mobility initiatives and deployments, manages the City of Detroit’s e-scooter rental program, implemented and operates Detroit’s Transportation Innovation Zone (TIZ), and leads the City’s fleet electrification, EV infrastructure, and autonomous vehicle strategies.

Prior to joining the City of Detroit, Tim served as Director of Smart Mobility Initiatives for NextEnergy, where he led mobility programs including the installation of a DOE-funded 400 kW DC fast charging pilot and the development of first-of-their-kind high-flow hydrogen fueling components for heavy-duty vehicle applications. Mr. Slusser is an accomplished technology strategist and program manager with more than 14 years of technology and economic development experience. Tim specializes in the renewable energy and automotive industries with particular emphasis on vehicle electrification. He previously helped attract the first $6 billion dollars of electric vehicle and battery investments in Michigan dating back to 2009 and facilitated the early industry partnerships that formed the Power Electronics Industry Collaborative (PEIC) in 2012.

Tim holds a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering and Master’s in Energy Systems Engineering, both from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
